August 26, 2010: First Meeting of Edward P. Allis Southern Wisconsin Chapter of the SIA The first meeting of the Edward P. Allis Chapter has been set for August 26th at 5:00 p.m. The free tour will start at the former Allis manufacturing shops that have been converted to office space through adaptive reuse, located at 6737 W. Washington Street, Suite 3105, West Allis, WI 53214. From there we will proceed to Regenco at 6609R West Washington Street, West Allis, WI 53214. These two facilities are the remnants of the original Reliance Works of the Edward P. Allis Company, manufacturer of some of the world’s largest steam engines and other machinery. The company later became Allis Chalmers Corporation. Directions: Coming from Downtown, exit I94 at 68th Street and drive the ramp to 70thStreet; turn south and drive about 2/3rds of a mile to Washington Street; take Washington east about one block to Summit. In 2010, the contest name, “Imaging Our National Heritage” encourages people to use their cameras to capture the meaning of the National Historic Landmark in a photo. If you’re inspired to visit our nation’s National Historic Landmarks, seek out the stories that have formed our American history, and create your own image to share. For the first time, NHL will be administering the NHL Photo Contest through our Group on Flickr.

Oct. 27-29, 2010 ERIH Annual Conference 2010 Barcelona, Spain
2010 ERIH Annual Conference which this year will take place in the Museu Nacional de la Ciéncia i de la Tècnica de Catalunya (mNACTEC) in Terrassa near Barcelona. 

The subject of this year’s Conference will be “Industrial Heritage Tourism – Examples of Best Practice". The aim of the event is to increase awareness of the wide range of activity and good practice that is taking place in this field across Europe. As the Conference is being organised jointly with the TICCIH Industrial Heritage Tourism Section it will also feature examples of good practice from across the world.
