2009 SIA Fall Tour - Mid-Hudson River Valley, New York
Oct. 8, 2009 (starting Thursday evening) to Sunday Afternoon, Oct. 11, 2009

Remember that the tour is Thursday, October 8 through Sunday, October 11. This allows you to use the Columbus Day holiday to travel home.

Please note these other important changes: The Thursday airport shuttles are now scheduled to run at 1:30 and 4:00 p.m. The 4:00 shuttle will take attendees directly to the reception. Luggage may stay on the bus until the end of the evening when the shuttle will go to the hotel. If you want to add a shuttle reservation or need to change the shuttle you are on, please contact us at sia@mtu.edu.

The SIA has arranged for those who registered for the ferry service, to be picked-up at the train station by the steam launch "Hestia." at 5pm on Thursday. The 34-foot long wooden boat is the replica of a Navy launch used to ferry sailors back and forth to their ships. It is powered by an 1898 Navy "G" compound steam engine. Follow the smell of coal smoke when you arrive at the Rhinecliff train station. The launch is provided courtesy of owner Gerry Weinstein and piloted by Gary Matthews.

Hotel: The tour hotel is the Holiday Inn, 503 Washington Ave. in Kingston, NY. Rates are $139 per night if reserved by September 8, 2009. Make reservations online or call 1-800-287-0037. The booking code is SIA. Parking is complimentary.

Hotel Update: The hotel will accept conference registrations at the negotiated price until the hotel is full, they did put ten more rooms on hold until Sept. 18th. However, registrants will need to call the hotel and ask for the rate, because the on-line system will not accept reservations for SIA now that the deadline has expired. The local phone number of the Holiday Inn in Kingston Hotel Front Desk is 1-845-338-0400.

The hotel also will allow anyone who wants to stay over Sunday night to do so at the conference rate, but that too had to be taken care of in person.

Travel: We recommend that those who travel by air, fly to Stewart International Airport outside Newburgh. We will be scheduling shuttle buses to and from Stewart ($20 fee each way). SIA shuttles to Kingston will leave at 1:30 and 4:00 p.m. and those reserving a seat will receive instructions on where to meet the shuttle. On Sunday, shuttles to Stewart will depart the hotel at 2:30 and 4:30 p.m.

If you are renting a car, you might consider the Albany airport, approximately 50 miles from the hotel. New York City airports are not recommended as the route is very indirect and will be a commute of 2 hours or more, depending on mode of transport and traffic.

Those traveling by train can get off in Rhinecliff. Taxis to Kingston cost about $30. Or, take the SIA-chartered ferry at 5:00 ($10 fee payable to the SIA). The Lark docks at the Kingston waterfront near the evening’s reception venue. Taxis from the waterfront to the hotel will cost $6.50, however, those on the 5:00 ferry should plan to go directly to the reception. For taxis in Kingston, call Kingston Kabs at 845-331-8200 or J&K at 845-471-7474.

Those traveling by car should take I-87 to Exit 19 and follow the traffic circle to the Holiday Inn at 503 Washington Ave, Kingston, NY.
